Today’s wedding is one which I’ve been excited about shooting all year (2012) and now its ready to be shared with you guys!

This wedding is special in many ways, it was my first (out of Australia) destination wedding set in Vanuatu – which is the place I grew up in…aka my second home! So it was great shooting a first destination wedding in a familiar place and at the same time got to visit my parents who still live there :) When I met up with Linda + Randy for the first time, we found out there were so many things we had in common such as Randy attended the brother school of my high school, they’ve been to the capital city of Vanuatu, Port Vila several times before and I knew of some of their mutual friends who were from Vanuatu as well. So the world kept getting smaller and smaller with this couple!

I asked them, why they chose Vanuatu and more specifically Santo (Main island of Vanuatu).. they simply said they love the place, had great past times there and wanted to visit Santo, which they haven’t been to before. They made an awesome choice with the wedding venue, Ratua Private Island, and as the name suggests it was like a secluded island far away from the main land (about 1 hour boat ride), so on the day we pretty much had the whole island to ourselves! The story behind this resort is, they apparently transported a whole Bali island resort onto this island which explains the Bali characteristics throughout. Linda + Randy had a “travel” theme for the wedding with boarding passes (invitations), passports (table name cards) and “Peacock” were the colours for the day.

The day of their wedding, I got to explore the island a little bit before getting started and I loved finding random little things, such as a Balinese food cart. It is honestly the most laid back wedding I’ve shot all year! Little fuss, no strict schedules … and how often do I find the groom’s party having a swim just 20mins before the ceremony?? Their ceremony took place on a private beach, just them and 30 or so other guests and within 15mins they became Husband and Wife! I loved shooting the location photos on the island, there were so many gorgeous spots on the island and a beautiful sunset (my fave in Vanuatu!) during the beach reception just made it sweeter!

It was an amazing day which ended with releasing wish lanterns and a boat ride back to the main land under a sky full of stars!!! It’s been a long journey for you both and I am so happy to see you both tie the knot! It was so much fun hanging out with you both + your guests while traveling to and from Vanuatu as well! Thank you Linda + Randy for bringing me along for your island wedding!! (I felt the need to pinch myself all day, I couldn’t believe I was working in paradise!) Best wishes to you both! x
